Janice Wainwright is one of my favourite British designers. With a career spanning the 60s into the 80s she created some of the most amazing pieces that ranged from billowing 70’s dresses decorated with devore velvet, to 20’s flapper style cocktail dresses with the most amazing draping. In the 80’s, sharp tailoring was the order of the day as seen in this rare Janice Wainwright 80’s fashion film
When I uncover a vintage Janice Wainwright design, I find it very difficult to let it go! I think she stands happily alongside Ossie Clark, Thea Porter and Jean Varon and her choice of exquisite fabric and embellishment never ceases to delight. I have quite a personal collection of a range of Janice Wainwright’s iconic pieces, some of which I can even squeeze into! Continue reading →
Recently sold to a lovely lady in London, this figure-hugging hot orange and silver vintage evening gown by renowned design house ‘Global’ will be out on the town again and wowing onlookers with her elegance and personality!
Sold on my Etsy shop, the very happy customer said: “★★★★★ I would like to thank the seller for sending me this wonderful dress! It really was as wonderful in real life as shown on the photo, it is truly beautiful! First class service and would not hesitate to shop here again!” Ah, thanks sweetie!
With a deep v back and absolutely outstanding detailing on the bottom of the skirt (I mean, check out those bows people), I’m betting this is one of a kind. Dress clash at a party? Not in this hot number! Got get em’ girl!
This stunning Jean Varon vintage floral dress was found many years ago and I kept it safe until recently sold to another vintage seller. I have to say I secured it for a very good price (which is rare with Varon’s) and because I try to be really fair with my customers, I let her go for a bargain price! I imagine she’ll be sold on to a lovely new home, and for me that’s what it is all about. Vintage for me is not just about celebrating bygone eras and recognising amazing design and craftsmanship; it’s also about trying to play a part in decreasing waste and saving resources on this little planet of ours.
So, if you pass by this beauty in the street sometime, give her a wave and wish her well on her next fabulous adventure!
The unique vintage prom dresses, day dresses and evening dresses at Frock & Stole Vintage are fur free. I have always worked with ethical companies and non-profits, and that includes cruelty free fashion and beauty brands. So it will come as no surprise that when I decided to set up a unique UK vintage dress boutique that it would have to be fur free!
Some say wearing fur should be a personal ‘choice’, however I will never be able to agree with this view point. Continue reading →

One of the many aspects I enjoy about collecting vintage fashion and couture is discovering the history behind each amazing piece.
It’s not always possible of course to uncover the provenance of your latest vintage dress, so it makes it even more special when vintage fashion comes with its own special story.
My latest discovery is an amazing Jean Varon evening dress for my own collection. It’s a black and silver creation that has a long zip up the front (very daring!), a long scarf that ties at the neck and a full, billowing cape attached at the shoulders that flows like liquid bat wings. This amazing creation is in spectacular condition and must have been expensive when first sold.
Now this is a perfect dress from the 1970s, with a ‘dagger collar’ and amazing orange and lime green print. With a silky feel and gentle sheen (although it is polyester), this is the perfect dress to transition from winter to spring and summer. From the Frock & Stole fur free vintage collection.
On its way to an exciting new life, but I have lots more to come in my Etsy shop. Don’t forget to connect with me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter so you never miss out on the latest fabulous fur free vintage finds. See you soon x
Happily rehomed and exploring a new chapter, this amazing Janice Wainwright vintage dress is one of my favourite finds from a much underrated designer. This super piece is so stunning and the condition was perfect, like most of my fur free vintage dress collection.
I have a growing collection of vintage Janice Wainwright dresses and separates, some of which will be coming to my Etsy shop soon. Check out Frock & Stole Vintage on instagram for previews so you don’t miss out on any special pieces that could be perfect for you. See you soon x
